RTDNF honored the memory of longtime “60 Minutes” commentator Andy Rooney by presenting Rooney’s family with the RTDNF Lifetime Achievement Award for Journalism Excellence at a media heavy Black Tie affair at the Ritz Carlton. (Andrea Mitchell  David Gregory  Chuck Todd shown above)

The Radio Television Digital News Foundation also honored four news leaders for their commitment to the First Amendment and excellence in journalism: NBC President Steve Capus, ABC’s Martha Raddatz, Marci Burdick of Schurz Communications and Jim Bohannon of Dial Global Radio Networks.

“The RTDNF First Amendment Dinner is one of the finest nights in journalism and I’m proud to be a part of it again this year,” said RTDNF Chairman Mark Kraham. “The 2012 award winners represent the best our profession has to offer. Their commitment to protecting the First Amendment and informing citizens is unparalleled.”

RTDNF Executive Director Mike Cavender added, ” This important event also supports one of the key missions of the Foundation-providing scholarships to the next generation of journalists.”

Emily Rooney, who accepted the award on behalf of her father Andy Rooney, was caught in this funny clip prior to the awards.  “What would please him,” Emily Rooney said later,  “Is that you all appreciate his talent as a writer.”
