“It was a great evening that capped off the Knoxville Medal of Honor Convention and ironically fitting that the Patriot Gala was held on the bicentennial day of the Star Spangled Banner being penned,” filmmaker Ed Hooper told Hollywood on the Potomac.  Hooper’s film Medal of Honor:A History premiered at The Supreme Court in March of this year.

“It was a first-class event for the living recipients, their families or survivors in some cases,” he said.  “Gary Sinise was emcee and Justice Alito, David Feherty, Mark Wahlberg and Jake Tapper were presented their awards by living recipients for their contributions to the Medal of Honor and veterans in general.”

Jake Tapper, chief Washington correspondent and anchor of CNN’s “The Lead,” received the “Tex” McCrary Award for Excellence in Journalism, ‘given to those impacting the country through unbiased reporting of military topics.’

Tapper was nominated for the award after writing his recent book, The Outpost:An Untold Story of American Valor, recounting one of the deadliest American battles in Afghanistan, from which two individuals received the Medal of Honor for their heroism.
