Hanging out at the White House over the weekend probably startled some tourists, but drew some laughs.  Hometown bank Capital One and The Kennedy Center who were honoring Jay Leno at the 2014 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on October 19th enlisted Jay’s former intern Ross Mathews (“Ross the Intern”) to take to the streets of Washington, DC to deliver laughs, celebrate comedy, and pay tribute to Jay.

Mathews didn’t jump the fence that we know of, nor was he arrested by The Secret Service for disturbing the peace. He was later seen on the Red Carpet with Leno.

Upon learning he would receive the Mark Twain Prize, Jay Leno remarked, “What an honor! I’m a big fan of Mark Twain’s. In fact, A Tale of Two Cities is one of my favorite books!”

“The Mark Twain Prize recognizes people who have had an impact on American society in ways similar to the distinguished 19th century novelist and essayist best known as Mark Twain.  As a social commentator, satirist and creator of characters, Samuel Clemens was a fearless observer of society, who startled many while delighting and informing many more with his uncompromising perspective of social injustice and personal folly.  He revealed the great truth of humor when he said against the assault of laugher nothing can stand.”  Mission statement

Entertainers included Garth Brooks, Kristin Chenoweth, Kevin Eubanks, Jimmy Fallon, Robert Klein, Chelsea Handler, Jerry Seinfeld, and Wanda Sykes which was taped by WETA Washington, DC as Jay Leno: The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize and will air on PBS stations nationwide November 23, 2014.

While we can’t report on the performances, we’re here to say it was a laugh a minute.
