It wasn’t exactly a scene out of La Grande Bouffe, but if Sips and Suppers had gone on for a few more days it could have been. The marathon dining experience to benefit DC Central Kitchen and Martha’s table kicked-off Saturday night at the Newseum – the swan song being Sunday night at private dinners around town.

“DC Central Kitchen and Martha’s Table are nationally known for their sincerity and integrity in what they do for people of the working class poor, the homeless, the incarcerated,” host Cindy Kacher told Hollywood on the Potomac.  Although she has volunteered for the organizations for many years, this is the first time she has hosted a dinner and was happy to pair wines from their personal collection.

“Sips & Suppers is a major celebration of food and community in the Washington, DC metro area. Now in its seventh year, Sips & Suppers began in 2009 as the brainchild of Alice Waters to raise the awareness of homelessness and hunger in the nation’s capital and to promote efforts to develop sustainable and local solutions to these challenges.

The weekend supports the wonderful work of DC Central Kitchen and Martha’s Table, organizations that serve the neediest individuals in the nation’s capital. Since its inception, Sips & Suppers has raised over 1 million dollars in financing for the essential programs run by these organizations. The event is proudly hosted by celebrated chefs José Andrés, Joan Nathan & Alice Waters.”  Mission Statement
