With the arrival of another White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner weekend, the United Nations Foundation and the Council on Foreign Relations in association with DevEx, kicked off Official Washington’s annual celebration of journalism around the world. For the journalists who cover issues of global significance, from the battlefield to the halls of Congress, the event was a toast to members of the fourth estate.

This year, at the D.C. headquarters of the U.N. Foundation, Washington insiders and journalists feted acclaimed actress Alfre Woodard, who plays “President Constance Payton” on NBC’s drama State of Affairs.

U.N. Foundation president Richard Parnell was quick to quip that he hoped that Woodard wouldn’t be the last “Madam President” in the near future.

From the Foundation’s rooftop deck, a block from the White House with sweeping views of the Washington Monument and the Capitol Dome, still tented and under renovation, and under the watchful eye of an oil-on-canvas portrait of billionaire benefactor Ted Turner, luminaries included FOX News anchor Bret Baier and his wife Amy; WTOP business reporter Jennifer Nycz-Connner; CFR Assistant Director Kendra Davidson; Fran Holuba of the National Security Council; and diplomats from the around the globe.
