It wasn’t until we got to the Thomson-Reuters Brunch on the rooftop of the Hay-Adams following the WHCA weekend that we truly appreciated President Franklin Delan0 Roosevelt’s ‘chicken in every pot.’ That’s not to say we didn’t appreciate all culinary creations prepared by top Chefs Mike Isabella, Jen Carroll and Spike Mendelshon. Take for example, the “Breaking the Glass Ceiling.”
” a chicken in every pot pie” inspired by Franklin Roosevelt — spit roasted chicken, spring vegetables, veloute
“Breaking the glass ceiling” inspired by Kristen Gillibrand — cold glass noodled, kimchi, radish, calamari broth
Guests at the annual Brunch were not much in the mood for ‘on the record” chatter as they tried to recount all the antics of the weekend, but a few necessary elements were in place as a contagious sense of hangover passed through the crowd.
Warm sunshine (and sunglasses), CHECK. Crisp breeze, CHECK. Brunch cocktails as far as the eye can see, Mimosas, Bloody Marys, CHECK. CHECK. And of course, a brigade of Top Chefs making the kind of food your body craves after long nights and thirsty mornings.

Local favorites Mike Isabella and Spike Mendelsohn (along with recruit Jen Carroll) cooked up a storm of specialties along with brunch staples of eggs, ham, juice, shrimp, crab, asparagus and lots and lots of coffee.
The Annual Brunch is always a nice locale to unwind for revelers who can swap stories of who they saw and who they chatted with. Media, members of congress, and a celebrity or two all mingled as a final curtain call to the excitement and fun of 2015’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. A bientôt!
