Winning awards is always a welcome achievement, but this summer it’s especially fulfilling to be recognized for one’s work over the past year.

Such is the case for Bethesda, Maryland-based GTM Architects, www.gtmarchitects.com, when they received six Maryland Building Industry Association (MBIA) 2020 Custom Builder Awards, including three Gold, one Silver, and two Judge’s Choice awards from the Montgomery County, Maryland chapter. These top honors recognize fine design and quality workmanship by builders, architects, designers and construction professionals throughout the region.

“GTM Architects is honored to be recognized by MBIA’s 2020 awards within Montgomery County’s home building industry and to collaborate with remarkable builders on these custom home projects,” says George Myers, President, GTM Architects. “Our longstanding tradition of excellence means everything to us, as I know it also does for our partners, and we’re proud to be part of such an inspiring community.”

A distinguished panel of industry experts judge the projects in traditional, contemporary and transitional categories, which are further divided into custom and speculative homes. Luxury amenities range from indoor or outdoor pools, indoor sports courts, spa baths, media rooms, outdoor entertaining spaces, home offices, and cutting-edge technology.

The custom home (3,500-5,000 sq. ft.) that won both a Gold Award for Custom Home Between 3,500-5,000 sq. ft. and a Judge’s Choice Award for Best Outdoor Living Space is located in the Garrett Park Historic District. It’s a two-story traditional farmhouse style home with a contemporary open-concept floor plan and straight-forward, clean-lined interior design with an abundance of natural light, warm wood and natural stone accents. The outdoor entertaining spaces include overhead heat, a fireplace and a fountain.

“The overall goal was to create a contemporary house that still fits within the Historic District with an open floor plan,” says Luke Olson, Project Lead, GTM Architects. “Large expanses of glass for natural light, spaces for entertaining, a signature staircase as a feature design element, and a seamless transition into the rear yard to provide outdoor living space for year-round use.”
