The George H.W. Bush Points of Light Awards returned to the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, DC, celebrating the transformative power of service in an era that needs it more than ever. Hollywood on the Potomac has covered this event since its inception, and once again the evening proved that purpose still has a place in the capital.

“When we step up to serve, we strengthen the very fabric of our country,” said Points of Light President & CEO Jennifer Sirangelo. “Trust grows. Connections deepen. Communities heal… That’s why Points of Light has set a bold goal: to double volunteering in the U.S. to 150 million people by 2035… to rebuild the bonds of service, compassion, and shared responsibility.”

This year’s honorees exemplified that spirit. Marvin Ellison, Chairman and CEO of Lowe’s, has earned recognition on Barron’s “Top CEOs” and Fortune’s “World’s Greatest Leaders” lists and is committed with his wife, Sharyn, to philanthropy focused on education and opportunity for minority youth. Gregg Petersmeyer, Chairman of America’s Promise Alliance and founding Director of the White House Office of National Service, launched the Daily Point of Light Award, the nation’s first daily presidential honor for volunteerism. Dynasty Taylor, founder and CEO of Dynasty’s United Youth Association (DUYA), began her nonprofit at just 23 and continues her mission to empower underserved youth with opportunity and self-determination.

The program was hosted by acclaimed journalist Judy Woodruff and attended by Margaret Bush, Lauren Bush Lauren, former Rep. Joe Crowley, Rosie Rios, Nikki Clifton, and Points of Light affiliates Jennifer Williamson and Lisa Fikes. Neil Bush, Chair of the Points of Light board, spoke on behalf of the Bush family, reminding guests of his father’s legacy: “Dad imagined a thousand points of light… we’ve honored more than 8,000… and we’re just getting started.”

The evening wasn’t just a tribute—it was a call to action. In a time of division, service remains one of the most unifying forces in American life, and the Points of Light Awards continues to shine on those who lead by example.
