It’s not everyday that an old TV studio gets a fresh design and soon after opens its doors with a black tie gala full of the city’s most influential scenesters…but then again, DC has been known to surprise.

That’s exactly what happened with Thursday’s VIP opening of The Huxley, the eagerly awaited nightlife spot from Ryan Seelbach and Eric Lund.

Even the Mayor stopped in for the opening (with some comically large scissors waiting for him) to cut the ribbon at the new club, tucked away off Connecticut Avenue in Dupont Circle.

DC’s suit-and-tie crowd upped their game for this spot though, sporting tuxes and shimmering cocktail dresses to break in the dance floor of the new venue, which plans to open for a strict guest list and table service on weekends and host events during the week.

The ornate space stands out from the usual nightclub decor with a very regal style that can support the swankiest of clientele in either the larger ‘ballroom’ or the ‘study’ which has it’s walls lined with books, including some old volumes of Encyclopedia Britannica, just in case Wikipedia is on the fritz and you need to punch out a report on volcanoes.

Find the Huxley at 1730 M Street NW.
