A gathering of old and new members celebrated at the historic American News Women’s Club townhouse on Embassy Row for their annual RED holiday party with Helen Thomas.
ANWC members and their friends included President Claire Sanders Swift and Co-Chairs of the evening Ginny Daly and Meredith Daly as well as Meredith’s husband, Associated Press White House reporter Matthew Daly who sits in Helen Thomas’ spot and Matthews’ twin brother Brendan Daly.
Joan Cushing, a favorite of ANWC’s members, tickled the keys again providing piano entertainment.
The evening benefited Community Bridges, a non-profit that supports teenage girls in need.
The ANWC is celebrating 80 years of women and progress and broke the news that they will honor Barbara Walters for their ANWC Excellence in Journalism award in 2013 at The Press Club.
Helen Thomas was the first to be named recipient of the award in 1992. Other past recipients include Walter Cronkite, Larry King, Katie Couric and Candy Crowley to name a few.
