‘Today the trees that Japan gave 101 years ago are so much a part of Washington that they are now as much American as Japanese. We cannot say if they are more one or more the other. Every year they blossom and they remind us of Japan, U.S. friendship. Let me raise a toast for the well-being of everybody here and everlasting friendship between our two nations.” Ambassador Sasae

“The National Japanese American Memorial to Patriotism is a memorial of lasting tribute to make sure that the lessons of the history of those of Japanese ancestry in the United States is not lost. It is something that we all remember to make sure that something like that should never ever happen again to any other group.

As we enjoy the cherry blossoms, let us not forget that they are a tribute to the everlasting friendship between the United States and Japan,” said former Secretary of Transportation Noman Mineta, guest of honor at the Cherry Blossom reception at the Ambassador’s residence.
