“Venus Williams will return to Washington with the World TeamTennis champion Washington Kastles this Sunday, July 22, replacing sister Serena Williams in the match against the Kansas City Explorers.
Serena Williams withdrew from Sunday’s match to further rest her back in advance of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, which begin July 28.
“After winning Wimbledon and Stanford I need to rest my back,” Serena Williams said. “Fortunately, my sister and Kastles teammate Venus has agreed to sub in for me. I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to see my D.C. fans, but can’t wait to go for gold in London.” Hollywood on the Potomac July 21st 2012

Now comes the documentary Venus & Serena which opens in Washington at the West End Cinema on May 17th.
“Ever since Venus and Serena Williams started playing in tennis tournaments, they’ve provoked strong reactions – from awe and admiration to suspicion and resentment.
They’ve been winning championships for over a decade, pushing the limits of longevity in such a demanding sport. How long can they last?
In Venus & Serena, we gain unprecedented access into their lives during the most intimidating year of their career. Over the course of 2011, Venus grappled with an energy-sapping autoimmune disease while Serena battled back from a life-threatening pulmonary embolism.
Neither Venus nor Serena let their adversities hold them back. They drew their greatest strength from each other.” Production Notes
