No, not those kind.  It’s all about hard hats, creativity and perserverance in a field generally designated for men.

The Hot Mommas® Project announced that Francisa Alonso, CEO of AV Architects and Builders of Northern Virginia, has been awarded the 2012-2013 STEM Award in its case study competition.

“Our venture celebrates diverse, dynamic women around the globe,” said Kathy Korman Frey, founder of the Hot Mommas® Project and Entrepreneur in Residence at the George Washington University School of Business, Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence.

“I am thrilled that my story of immigrating to the United States from Spain, earning my degree in architecture and launching a career, family and successful business will be included in the Hot Mommas® Project case study library as an inspiration for young women interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics the world over,” said Alonso. “With fewer women studying and working in STEM-related fields, we need to encourage young women to embrace their passions in these fields and overcome any perceived roadblocks to pursuing those dreams. We must foster and empower these young women, not only for their own good, but to remain competitive with other leading economies. If I can do it, so can they.”
