It was a bit fancy, a bit creative and a LOT of fun on Friday evening when The Corcoran Gallery of Art‘s 1869 society hosted “Americans in Paris,” it’s fall fete gala.
Hundreds gathered right within the museum to celebrate the re-installation of the American galleries at the Corcoran and at the same time give a nod to the influence that Paris has had on American artists.
The food, the fashion, the glitz and culture of French life has certainly been the subject of many writers and especially artists who have traveled to Paris in search of inspiration. The night certainly brought that same allure to all the revelers.
There was music, cocktails, french inspired bites and of course decorations to remind you of of the European world colliding into DC. The museum’s galleries were open through the night as well to allow guests to soak in the beauty of the art that calls the Corcoran home; nothing like checking on giant historical paintings or famous contemporary statues to add some life to your conversation between cocktails.
The entire evening had the flow and feel of one giant performance piece; gown’s flowing as women rushed through the atrium, the refined elegance of men in tuxedos comparing their favorite piece from the gallery, it was picturesque.
