Not to diminish the five Oscar nominations for best actor, but we were disappointed that Forrest Whitaker wasn’t nominated for his impeccable performance in “The Butler”- stunned actually.
In case you haven’t seen it, the film traces the dramatic changes that swept American society from the civil rights movement to Vietnam and how those changes affected this man’s life and family. Forest Whitaker stars as the butler with Robin Williams as Dwight Eisenhower, James Marsden as John F. Kennedy, Liev Schreiber as Lyndon B. Johnson, John Cusack as Richard Nixon, Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan. Academy Award® nominated Lee Daniels directs and Emmy®-award winning Danny Strong wrote the script.
Back in August, Hollywood on the Potomac sat down with Wil Haygood and Charles Allen at The Newseum. The room was dark and the noise a bit busy, but the conversation fascinating. In their own words:
“The Butler” is now playing on pay per view on Comcast – don’t miss it.
