We’re not exactly sure how the British Isles are divvied up, but we’re sure a sense of humor has been spread around equally as was evident at a celebration of St. David’s Day at the residence of British Ambassador Peter Westmacott.  Ok, so maybe they had a little help from the friendly bartender doling out Welsh Whiskey.

“I’m the First Minister of Wales, which makes me a kind of  “Prime Minister,” said Carwyn Jones who sat down with Hollywood on the Potomac (see video below) to discuss the purpose of his visit here.

Jones went on to explain St. David’s Day this way:  “He was somebody who preached in the village and the day is called Dydd Gŵyl Dewi.  Pronounce that if you can.”  We couldn’t……… He ended our interview in Welsh.  Translation: We couldn’t understand a word he said, but assume it was something amusing.

Meanwhile, back in Virginia, Rep. Morgan Griffith is practicing up on his Welsh.  Considering his district runs a four hour course into Washington, we’re sure that by this time next year he will make Rosetta Stone proud.  As Chairman of the Congressional Friends of Wales Caucus, he takes his position very seriously and embodies the Welsh spirit with a lineage to match Minister Jones.’
