Ok, it’s true. We were tempted to send our Uber bill to the Italian Embassy.

Over two thousand guests showed up at Italian National Day on Whitehaven creating a traffic jam that warped into an hour and fifteen minutes, an otherwise eight minute ride.  But, as former Speaker of the House Jim Wright said in his 1993 book, it was Worth it All.

We may have missed most of the intro remarks by Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero, but not the mounds of pasta, gelato and the Ferrero chocolates.

“The event in Washington is part of an overall effort that calls all of Italy’s Diplomatic Missions to promote Expo 2015 during the National Day celebrations,” he said.  “The Expo is the most important international event on food sustainability to take place either in Italy or the world in the coming years.

This is one of the world’s greatest challenges in the 21st century and Italy has a great deal to contribute when it comes to healthy foods and healthy lifestyles.”  We’re in!

We were greeted by the Italian Minister of Health – Beatrice Lorenzin – who traveled from Rome to underscore Italy’s commitment to making the Expo a unique opportunity for global dialogue on the challenges of nutrition and food sustainability.

Expo Milano 2015 is the World’s Fair that will take place in Milan from May 1 to October 31, 2015. The theme of Expo Milano 2015 will be Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.  Running for 184 days, the exhibition will involve over 140 countries and will attract over 20 million visitors who will have the possibility of “traveling” around the world, sampling their foods and exploring their cultural traditions.  We’re in!

Many Italian companies collaborated on the event that showcased their individual “Made in Italy” signature including  Automobili Lamborghini, BCUBE, Beretta USA, Calligaris, Chrysler Group LLC, Costa Crociere, Dolci Gelati, Don Ciccio e Figli, Enel, Eni, Ferrero, Finmeccanica North America, Lavazza, Pelliconi, Pirelli, Rina Group, Trevi, and Ville d’Italia.
