Many people might have questions about going to a party in an abandoned church… but that’s the kind of thing that demands a team like Rock the Vote, Twitter and Fusion to gather the masses for a kickoff to the annual White House Correspondents Association Dinner.
The crowd, who packed South West Washington’s Blind Whino, was treated to a party without pretension during the WHCA weekend in a quadrant of the city rarely seen by out-of-towners.
In the cavernous upstairs ballroom, the band was rocking, and DJs were spinning; food trucks were in the courtyard outside quenching the hunger of the DC, New York and Hollywood VIPs who gathered to launch the weekend dedicated to the partier’s party goer.
Guests sipped wine and cocktails, danced and sang, marveled at expertly-lighted trees which added a cherry blossom feel to the night, and of course, gossiped about which celebs had already been spotted in town. (Celebs like Gossip Girls star Kelly Rutherford, who came to Washington a day early to make an appearance on the red carpet.)

The weekend is just kicking off, so the rocking (for a vote or otherwise) was just beginning.
