Actors & Politicians…..

Actors & Politicians…..

“All the World’s a Stage,” according to playwright William Shakespeare. With that in mind, we wondered what the Presidential debates would look like if  they were between Kevin Spacey (House of Cards), Tim Daly & Tea Leoni from Madame Secretary, Julia Louis-Dreyfus from VEEP, Rob Lowe from The West Wing, Kerry Washington from Scandal or Bryan Cranston from Argo. As Jack Valenti (former head of MPAA) always said: “Actors and politicians spring from the same DNA.”

The idea is not that far-fetched. There have been many actors who have turned politicians including child actress Shirley Temple who went on to be Amb. to Czechoslovakia, Clint Eastwood as Mayor of Carmel, Sonny Bono to Congress, Fred Thompson to Congress, Jesse Ventura to Gov. of Minnesota, Arnold  Schwarzenegger to Gov. of California, comedian Al Franken to Congress, Fred Grandy of The Love Boat to Congress and of course Ronald Reagan to President. So we’re thinking maybe it’s time for Bryan Cranston, who is best known for his roles in the Fox sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, the drama series Breaking Bad and the movie Argo, to think politics.

Cranston had a starring role in Argo as the assistant deputy director of the CIA, Jack O’Donnell who is the boss to the agent (Ben Affleck).  Jack O’Donnell put in motion the making of a fake movie production to help six Americans escape from Iran during the hostage crisis. The movie is based on actual events. He’s currently channeling 37th President Lyndon B. Johnson in the Broadway play All the Way which will move on to HBO.

If “Little House on the Prairie” star Melissa Gilbert is putting her political hat on, why not Cranston?

Hollywood on the Potomac was impressed about his feelings towards the government and media, before and after having been involved in Argo. Will someone please let this man into the Presidential debates?
