East meets West has never been tastier. Tadich Grill is an iconic restaurant that’s been in business for the past 167 years in San Francisco. Their first expansion is here in DC at 10th and Penn where Ten Penh used to be.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Tadich Grill is in her District) kicked off the evening with Father Patrick Conroy, chaplain of the House of Representatives, who blessed the restaurant. Receiving the blessing: longtime Tadich owner Mike Buich and his family, which included his father and mother, his wife and three daughters, as well as his Tadich business partner Gerard Centioli.

Chef Wil Going prepared a menu of food stations throughout the restaurant that included their renowned cioppina, lobster and shrimp rolls, lamb chops, raw bar of clams, oysters, shrimp and crab claws from both coasts. I loved the deviled eggs with caviar or smoked salmon or crab meat on top.

Since the budget bill was passed earlier in the day, guests ran the bipartisan gamut: Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse [D-RI], Rep Jim Costa [D-CA] Rep Eric Swalwell [D-CA], and American Enterprise Institute’s David Gerson.

SCOTUS was represented by Tadich Grill fan Justice Anthony Kennedy who brought his wife Ann. Their first date many years ago was at Tadich. Dem. supporter Tom Quinn and former NBA great and former Congressman Tom McMillan were guests as was ESPN’s Tony Kornheiser who quizzed astronaut and Discovery Mission Commander Bill Readdy about the movie The Martian he had just seen on whether it was accurate. It was.
