“Don’t say anything out loud, just think of a playing card. Got it in your head? Do you have a card in mind?” Max Mayor asked Hollywood on the Potomac. “I want to try to read you. Picture your card right here, like it were nice and big, and in the corner picture the value, like the number of that card. See it in your mind?” Max Major is a mentalist whose performances combine Magic, Mentalism and Hypnosis who relies heavily on his skills at reading body language. In addition to corporate performances he did a command performance at the residence of Redskins owner Dan Snyder. So what was he doing at the Black and White 10th Anniversary of Capitol File celebration at The House of Sweden in Georgetown? Some friends she met at a film festival in Middleberg suggested Max as entertainment to Suzy Jacobs, Publisher. And yes, he got the card right!

“We wanted a theme and we wanted something elegant,” Suzy told us regrading the Black and White theme. “We felt very strongly that the most prominent photos of Washington DC are black and white. They are always very prolific. We wanted to bring that here, although there’s a little touch of chartreuse to celebrate the holidays.”
Jacobs went on to explain the changes occurring in both the ownership and format of the new Capitol File. But first a little history: Jason Binn founded Niche Media, a leading publisher of luxury regional magazines nationwide and then in 2006 sold Niche Media to the Greenspun Media Group. In 2007, GMG purchased the Ocean Drive Media Group, which Binn co-owned and founded. After a successful merger and transition, Binn continued to oversee the operations and management of the company until his resignation in 2010 after which he founded Dujour, a super high end luxury publication. “We have taken a whole new turn and we kind of restructured the company and the magazine, the look and the feel,” said Jacobs. “The magazine’s going to be very different next year. It’s going to be digestible, with much more visuals, a quicker, faster read, much more hyper-local, with more content pages and more ‘what’s happening’, what’s new, DC content.”

All sorts of rumors have been swirling about whether Modern Luxury or another company would merge with them. No one seems to know for sure. Maybe we should ask Max, the Mentalist!
