WGN’S new escape thriller “Underground” was recently celebrated at a White House screening of the series in honor of Black History Month. From executive producers John Legend and Academy Award-winner Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind,” “I Am Legend”), Underground is set in 1857 and takes viewers on a pulse-pounding journey with revolutionaries of the Underground Railroad and tells the unflinching story of a group of courageous men and women who band together for the fight of their lives – for their families, their future and their freedom.

Underground centers on a group of slaves planning a daring 600-mile escape from a Georgia plantation. Along the way, they are aided by a secret abolitionist couple running a station on the Underground Railroad as they attempt to evade the people charged with bringing them back, dead or alive. The 10-episode, hour-long series follows a group of courageous men and women who use their ingenuity, power and perseverance to attempt the greatest escape in history and break free, despite the dire consequences that awaited them on the other side.” Production
