It’s always a good thing that no Red Bull is served at Voto Latino events; guests are already on an energy high. Check out the video below.

María Teresa Kumar and Brunswick Group’s David Sutphen hosted the 7th Annual “Our Voices: Celebrating Diversity in Media” reception to kick off White House Correspondents’ weekend festivities on Friday, April 26, at the Hay-Adams Hotel rooftop overlooking the White House. The event, considered one of the most diverse during White House Correspondents’ weekend, brought together hundreds of influential leaders from media, politics, and business to celebrate the power of diverse voices.

The event highlighted the “Crash the Parties” initiative, a nationwide search to identify two aspiring, millennial reporters to cover the Democratic and Republican National Conventions for Fuse, a national television network for the fast-growing Latino and multicultural 18-34 audience.  “Crash the Parties” is a partnership between Voto Latino and Fuse, and was created to inspire and encourage participation among millennials in the upcoming Presidential election, and to also address the lack of on-camera diversity in media.

Emmy Award-winning actress and Voto Latino’s Artist Coalition Co-Chair America Ferrera kicked off a PSA campaign on April 12, urging young Latinos to “take charge of the national debate.” We love Ferrera. Last year at the 10th Anniversary of Voto Latino she told Hollywood on the Potomac: “I’m America, and I am America.  I remember in the 2012 election feeling really frustrated that I only had two choices and that we as a community were being solicited, but not being heard.”

Rachel Maddow, MSBNC host of “The Rachel Maddow Show” and political commentator, is the newest judge to join the expert panel, and she joins previously announced judges Jose Antonio Vargas, Alejandra Campoverdi, Maria Hinojosa, Lizza Monet Morales, and Katherine Vargas.
