During The March for Our Lives on Saturday, March 24, organized by the students of the Florida shooting, the eyes have it.  The pink pussy hat is being replaced by the evil eye glove, each featuring an eye knitted into the palm that will create a sea of eyes staring at the White House and Capitol Hill, warning lawmakers and The President they are being watched for their actions on gun safety.

Krista Suh, co-founder of the Pussyhat Project

Krista Suh – activist, Hollywood screen writer and the creator of the Pussyhat Project – dreamed up the glove project, literally. The idea came to her in a dream in which she saw a huge group of women holding up their hands with eyes on the palms. This was prior to the Women’s March and the pink pussy hat. Krista made a note of the dream and when the Parkland shooting occurred she knew it was time to act.

Ever since, the tiny Californian has feverishly organized knitters around the world to create tens of thousands of gloves. As each pair of gloves was finished, it was marked with a personal note from maker to marcher, placed in a zip-lock bag and mailed to The Woman’s National Democratic Club. WNDC distributed Suh’s pink pussy hats during the 2017 Women’s March on Washington and will also hand out her gloves at the March for Our Lives.

“The evil eye is an ancient symbol of protection against negativity,” says Krista. “And since these gloves were created by thousands of loving hands, I feel that as we hold our hands in the air, we are surrounded by a sea of love.” Krista Suh has been conducting glove-making workshops at the WNDC this week, adding to the tons of boxes of gloves that have arrived from nations around the world. If 500,000 marchers show up as planned, that could be a million eyes staring at the White House.
