Qorvis Holiday Party at Cafe Milano:  “The Holidays are a time of sharing. It’s a great time to bring people together from all parts of the world and all different political ideologies together in different gatherings in DC and that’s what Washington is all about – making positive things happen together, regardless of our ideology or geographic differences.” Matt J. Lauer, Executive VP Qorvis Communications.

The Emperor’s Birthday hosted by Ambassador and Mrs. Sugiyama at The Residence. “Every year we hold a reception to celebrate the Emperor’s birthday but tonight is special because we are not only saying happy birthday but goodbye and thank you. His Majesty the Emperor, who is turning 85, will abdicate on April 30th after 30 years on the Throne. His Majesty is seen as the ‘people’s Emperor’ and known for his kindness and commitment to the public. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake, he visited the area sharing a message of comfort and compassion, urging people not to ‘abandon hope’ but to help one other. The past 30 years of His Majesty’s Throne has coincided with an era when Japan-U.S. friendship strengthened and our alliance became the foundation of peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. Next time, we will celebrate the birthday of the new Emperor, the 58-year-old His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince, who will accede to the Throne May 1st.” Ambassador Sugiyama
