“It was a wonderful experience, I tell you, going through high school here and getting to know from a young age the U.S. and the American history, American culture.  I became a great fan of American football, and am still a great fan of the Redskins,” said Ambassador Gil-Casares referring to his long association with The United States, both in Washington and in New York.

“Tourism is doing wonderfully.  We are 47 million Spainards living in Spain and we receive like sixty million tourists a year – so there are more tourists than Spaniards in our country which is a blessing.”

“We have a pretty good image in the U.S,” he remarked.  “It’s a cool country – if you will allow me that term – with lots of culture, wonderful beaches, two or three of the most livable cities in the world: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Bilboa.  You have the sports, you have the carnivals.  People like Spain.”
