“Our 2013 roster makes it clear, once again, that Washington continues to be a hub of creative energy and technology growth, fed by young people with a seemingly endless supply of ideas to match their creative and entreprenurial outlooks,” said Nancy Bagley, Washington Life‘s Editor in Chief. “The city has become a center for independent artistic spirit, fervor for social change and dynamic ideas for new businesses.”

The occassion was Washington Life’s 8th annual Young and The Guest List (YGL) event held at the historic Carnegie Library at Mount Vernon Square in Washington, D.C. The historic landmark has awe-inspiring architecture, nine spacious rooms, a 150-seat theater and 75,000 square feet of party space for the 800 guests. It was dedicated in 1903 by President Theodore Roosevelt and industrialist Andrew Carnegie. “Carnegie Library is an integral part of the 200 year history of Mount Vernon Square, and we are pleased to play host to YGL 2013,” said Gregory O’Dell, president of Events DC, venue sponsor of YGL 2013.
This year, Bagley felt the time was right to support and encourage the city’s creativity by showcasing elements of food, fashion, and art. “We found a location that would do just this in the collaboration with Carnegie Library, a historic jewel,” she said.

For the fifth year in a row, YGL was under the ingenious power of event planner extraordinaire Andre Wells, one of the nation’s most sought-after event planners. Besides the fab cuisine from Occasions we fell in love with the band Rhythm6 who got the guests moving with their rendition of “Free Nelson Mandela.” (see below)
To reinforce the idea of Washington as the new Creative Capitol, Washington Life this year collaborated with renowned artistic impresario Sandro Kereselidze and partner “Tati” Pastukhova of Art Soiree Productions to bring a healthy dose of artistic pizzazz to this high-energy event. “A lot of big parties can be stuffy, and dancing all night at a club can leave you empty,” says Sandro. “We’re planning to bring a little more edge to YGL with our performers and artists.”
Since its inception in 2005, Washington Life’s annual “The Young and the Guest List” has been the city’s marquis event recognizing the most accomplished young leaders in the nation’s capital under the age of 40. As the city becomes more vibrant with each new crop of twenty- and thirty-something movers and shakers, deciding whom to include becomes an ever-more daunting task.
The 2013 list includes 330 formidable overachievers, including Members of Congress, White House policy makers, entrepreneurs, musicians, artists, activists and media personalities. It also reflects the area’s growing dining scene with restaurateurs, mixologists and other fabulous foodies.

“WL Publisher Soroush Shehabi took the opportunity to recognize some of their sponsors/vendors as well as remember the great Nelson Mandela who passed away on the eve of the event.”
