Colombia….

Colombia….

“My visit to Washington, DC was another important, critical moment to highlight Colombia’s gains, the importance of continued bipartisan US support and the new era of cooperation between our two countries,” said Vice President of Colombia General Óscar Naranjo who was the honored guest at the Residence of the Colombian Ambassador to the US Camilo Reyes.

Prior to becoming Vice President, General Naranjo was for 35 years  “a member of our police and a commander of our police,” noted Ambassador Reyes. “He then moved to be one of the many negotiators of our peace process, and now he’s our Vice President in charge of some of the most difficult responsibilities in our country to help us to convey the message regarding the way in which the peace process is advancing, the way in which Columbia is fighting against drugs, and the way in which a transformation in a country like ours is reflected in much stronger institutions and capacities.”

Ambassador Reyes went on to reflect on the Vice President’s exhausting schedule while in Washington and the benefits gained for both countries.  “We have exhausted our Vice President. He already has had about 40 meetings. He has addressed the Hill, he has addressed the media, he has been in with the administration, he has been talking to the think tanks and he really has helped our mission and the name of our country. Mr. Vice President, thank you very, very much. I can assure you that at least for my wife and for myself, the mission here in Washington has changed thanks to your support, to your presence, and to the fresh information and your point of view of the way in which we are advancing.”
