It was no surprise that a fundraiser for Mayoral contender Jack Evans was held at the art filled home of Carole Feld and David Levy, also hosted by Rhona Wolfe Friedman, Kay Kendall and Dan Rapoport. Levy, of course, headed up the Corcoran Gallery of Art for 14 years and little wonder that he would back Evans, a long time supporter of the arts.

Evans, who represents Ward 2 on the D.C. Council, is DC’s longest serving councilmember and is his second run for Mayor.  After a spirited and heartfelt introduction by Levy, Evans took the floor and went through his platform while interjecting some humorous stories about sharing office space with “Mayor for Life” Marion Barry.

The field is crowded but for now at least, Evans had nothing but kind words for his competitors including incumbent Vincent Gray.  “I’m not running against the mayor,” he said.  “I’m running for mayor.  Hopefully people will look at my record and vote for me based on that.”

Evans has been criss-crossing the city attending events from the U Street corridor to Ford’s Theatre, with a jump start that actually started about 8,000 days ago when he first joined the council.  Stay tuned.
