DeGeneres – A Pioneer!

While the Presidential campaign debate raged on TV – and that was no laughing matter – there were plenty of chuckles to be had at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts as Ellen DeGeneres was honored with the Mark Twain for American Humor Award.

Actors and comedians from around the country joined in the fun to honor Ellen’s contribution to comedy in the American spectrum. The ceremony will be broadcast Oct. 30 on Public Broadcasting Service stations.

DeGeneres is well known for her dry sense of humor and of course her dancing on her daytime talk show as well as being a pioneer in television for coming out of the closet in 1997 and having her TV character follow suit, becoming the first lead prime-time character to reveal she is gay.

The likes of Lily Tomlin, Jimmy Kimmel, Jane Lynch and many others flocked to support DeGeneres, and Tommy McFly, host of The Tommy Show on 94.7 Fresh FM was on the scene to check in with the stars.
