While everyone was recovering from Hurricane Sandy and the Presidential Election, we thought we would give you a break from both and take you to Jakarta where energy is booming.

Jakarta Fashion Week 2013 resumed in full force on Thursday November 8th with leading senior designer Obin who opened with a colorful show  – showcasing her expertise in finely woven fabrics. Vibrant colors and patterns, combined with groovy seventies disco music, generated a jolt of energy for the event. She divided the show into segments, starting with a row of red, followed by fun, cheerful rainbow colors.

For all you Washington male wonks, this one’s for you!

Fashion Week was not just to attend fashion shows but to observe the creations of 23 local labels which had been carefully selected by the organizers. Their creations are placed in a specially created Buyers’ Room at the event’s site. The room was officiated earlier in the day by the Director General of External Trade, Gusmardi Bustami, and Svida Alisjahbana, Chairperson of the Jakarta Fashion Week 2013. This is a significant milestone in the history of the Jakarta Fashion Week.

The day continued as Indonesia’s Moslem fashion designers released their creations onto the runaway. Their unabashed use of colors and patterns declare to the world that Indonesia has a unique brand of Islam, one which allows style and creativity to mushroom.
