The lines outside LongView Gallery looked more like people awaiting their turn to purchase limited tickets to a Lady Gaga concert. There was music, all right, but more of the pumped in version. This wasn’t a rock concert or folks camping out for a glimpse of Justin Timberlake performing live on a morning news feature program…no. None of the above. These folks were queuing up for something even better…a sale.
Gilt City presented its warehouse sale this past weekend…and you know what that means. Wait… you don’t?? Let us clue you in so if you weren’t one of the lucky ones present, you can be aware next time this comes along. For those that know, sit back and enjoy your multi-hundreds of dollars valued merchandise you just picked up for like $49. Mama loves a good bargain (so does Papa). For all you doubters, know that Vogue has called this the “online shopping phenomenon.”
There were designer purses, Kate Spade sheet sets, huge multi-colored gel watches and Designer dresses from Helmut Lang to Elle Tahari. There were jeans, tops and flip flops. This was not just for the women, though, there were big name sport coats, trousers, ties; overcoats and even boxers. For the kids, onesies, little dresses, coveralls and accessories. This, clearly, was an equal opportunity sale.
“When I have taken my time, looked through the racks and filtered through the shoes and accessories with an open mind, this is when the magic happens and I’ve come home with some of my favorite pieces (a Marni wallet, some beautiful printed bath towels that go perfectly in my guest bath, an over-the-knee boot at a NOT over-the-top price),” DC curator Marissa Schneider said. “I bought a beautiful ashtray for a cigar enthusiast, baby items for friends who just brought home a newborn, some bracelets for a friend’s birthday, a vase and ceramic bowl for a housewarming party.”
Of course man cannot live by fashion alone. Refreshments by AQUAhydrate and Coco Café with beverages courtesy of La Marca Prosecco, Whitehaven Wine, New Amsterdam Vodka, Vita Coco and more were available along with snacks and a dipping station courtesy of Pretzel Crisps.
It was difficult to fit the bags out the door—but we managed. Keep an eye out for the next Gilt City Warehouse Sale. There could be that perfect hidden treasure—without the need to do major digging—just perhaps some minor sifting through the racks.
