Rain Pryor took DC by storm with an unforgettable 70-minute one woman show as a fundraiser for Girls, Inc. of Washington, D.C. at the Atlas Theater on H Street.

Pryor – acclaimed actress, singer, comedienne, playwright and director – is the daughter of the late comedian Richard Pryor and Shelly Bonis, a Jewish go-go dancer in the 1960s.

Fried Chicken and Latkes, recounts her upbringing in a bi-racial household in Beverly Hills during the 1970s and 1980s. Pryor is noted for her ability to jump effortlessly from one childhood remembrance to another and “she sure does one hell of an impression of her dad,” said Andy Webster in a New York Times review.

“By having this fundraiser, we aim to provide every girl with a safe after school environment where she can take risks and master physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges and develop the goals and skills that will lead her to a successful future” said Denese Lombardi, Executive Director Girls, Inc. of the Washington.

As its mission statement indicates, GIWDCMA strives to inspire DC girls to be strong, smart and bold.
