“She’s a local, and I think that makes her all the more relatable to many of the fans in this room,” said Karyn A.Temple, Senior Executive VP and Global General Counsel for The Motion Picture Association at an event there for The Golden Bachelorette. “When all is said and done, this show is in the words of one critic, an absolutely soul lifting, palette cleansing, world writing, world writing experience. This show is ensuring that the faces and experiences of more of our audiences are reflected back to us on our screens.“

The special evening featured a fireside chat moderated by Rachael Bade of Politico and ABC with The Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos at the MPA.

The show is an American dating reality television series on ABC.  As a spin-off of The Bachelorette it features a cast of older people as the contestants and single woman. The series stars 61-year-old Joan Vassos, a private school administrator and widow from Rockville, Maryland. It concluded in November with Vassos accepting a proposal from 60-year-old Charles “Chock” Chapple.

“So I was out to dinner with a good friend of mine “ Joan Vassos told Hollywood on The Potomac, “and we were looking around this restaurant in Rockville, sitting at the bar and I said, ‘Everybody here is a couple’ and she’s like ‘Yeah, they really are.’ I said, ‘I’m never going to find a husband.’ And she said, ‘Yeah, that’s going to be an issue for you.’ I went home and a commercial came on for The Golden Bachelorette saying that they were doing casting calls so I filled out the form and got the part.”
