Hollywood on the Potomac is most at home day-to-day in Washington, D.C., where we track the politics, power, celebrities and social doings of the U.S. Capital. Washington is a bustling metropolis; not only is it the center of politics in the United States, it’s also a hub of historical places and things with a concentration of geopolitical figures ranging from corporate leaders to ambassadors and diplomats.

HOP’s Ambassador Series has been an ongoing look into global politics and culture and the way that those issues converge within the Washington ecosystem. An extension of that effort debuts today as we launch a multi-piece video series called “Experience Tokyo” showcasing the arts, government, food, culture and sports of Japan. Working with the Metropolitan Government of Tokyo, the HOP team embarked east to find out more about the parallels between Washington and Tokyo, which similarly house government, financial power, and a rich cultural history.

The video series will present the defining moments of the trip and all the experiences that were encountered. Along with the a look into Japan’s sporting traditions, HOP talked with many figures about Tokyo’s pending bid to be host of the 2020 Summer Olympics, an issue that is electrifying the whole nation.

Beyond the hospitable people, the city itself seemed to speak for itself throughout the whole trip. Tall buildings, lots of people and an impeccably ordered and clean society were immediately apparent from our first moment to our last in the country. The energy and cadence of Tokyo is a hard one to replicate, but we hope that the forthcoming series will let Japan’s beauty speak for itself to you as well.
