Poised, calm & collected, smart, elegant and naturally beautiful – all describe model, actress and author Carre Otis who has graced the covers of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Allure, Mirabella, and Marie Claire, among others.  A knockout some would say, a reference she could probably do without.

In her case, it’s also fair to say that looks can be deceiving.

In 1992 she married actor Mickey Rourke, a marriage not made in heaven.  Although charges were said to be dropped, he was arrested for domestic violence.  They divorced six years later after a tumultuous union and the relationship was chronicled in her book, “Beauty, Dis-rupted.” that reveals the other side of fame and the how knockout took on new meaning.

Last night, Otis was honored for her commitment to domestic violence awareness at the Annual Knock-Out-Abuse event at The Ritz Carlton for her advocacy for women’s physical and emotional health.

She currently serves on the Advisory Board of The Model Alliance, a non-profit industry group working to establish fair labor standards for models in the U.S.
