Everyone has a new beau…at least every third Thursday in November.
This year was no different at Central Michel Richard, that bastion of fine bistro fare, which again debuted this liquid grape in diapers—“this wine is only a month old!” exclaimed sommelier Mark Slater as he sampled the first pour.
Congratulations! We have a bouncing baby vintage.
This year, as with others, the restaurant was jam-packed with those seeking a good celebratory evening of music from Dixieland Jazz performers, Laissez Foure and specials from Chef Michel Richard and Corporate Chef David Deshaies like Cotes du Bouef and rack of lamb—all of which pair perfectly with the vintage from Domaine Duboeuf. Another glass? Oui!!
For the unindoctrinated, Beaujolais Nouveau is a red wine made from Gamay grapes produced in the Beaujolais region of France. It is the most popular ‘vin de primeur,’ fermented for just a few weeks before being released for sale on the third Thursday of November.
This “Beaujolais Nouveau Day” used to see heavy marketing, with races to get the first bottles to different markets around the globe. We kind of feel we won this marathon.
This year’s Beaujolais Nouveau is pretty good as they get. We’re running out to our local vino retailer to grab a few bottles for Thanksgiving. It’s s much easier to be thankful with wine.
