The Television Critics Association Awards, still in its infancy, took the brunt for many insider jokes on Saturday night: “I’d never heard of TCA — I’m in the movie business — until about six months ago,” said producer Jerry Weintraub, accepting the award for Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries and Specials.
Hollywood on the Potomac looks back at the DC connections with the nominees:
Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Individual Achievement in Comedy: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “VEEP” (HBO) and Outstanding Achievement in Comedy: “Veep,” HBO
HOP was on site for the DC Red Carpet premiere of HBO’s new political comedy VEEP to chat with cast and crew about Washington, politics and the show.
Individual Achievement in Drama: Bryan Cranston, “Breaking Bad” (AMC)
Although our interview with Cranston was for ARGO, we caught up with him at the ARGO Red Carpet:
News and Information: “Anderson Cooper 360.” CNN; “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” Comedy Central; The Rachel Maddow Show,” MSNBC.
Well, we kind of catch up with them everywhere, but especially at The White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner with Rachel Maddow taking over bartending duties at the MSNBC After Party.
Outstanding New Program: “House of Cards”, Netflix and Program of the Year: “House of Cards,” Netflix“
It was a full on collision of Hollywood and politics for the DC premiere of House of Cards, the brand new political drama that airs Friday exclusively on Netflix.
The story follows cunning Rep. Francis Underwood, portrayed by Kevin Spacey who will stop at nothing to move up the ranks of the DC power elite.
Outstanding Achievement in Drama: “Homeland” Showtime
Meredith Fineman and Fred Armisen
At the PEOPLE party: “Armisen wasn’t the only one from a fictional DC universe on hand; also milling with the crowd was Navid Negahban, known for his infamous portrayal of the villain Abu Nazir on Showtime‘s hit show Homeland. Even with the death of Nazir this past season, Navid was humble about the idea that his character could resurface in the thick web of flashbacks that the show presents; “From your lips to God’s Ears [I will be back].”
Career Achievement Award: Barbara Walters:
