What could bring the legendary Foo Fighters back to DC for a private show? The pause from sold out arena shows was inspired by support for Power to the Patients, the advocacy organization promoting a movement of price transparency in healthcare.
The organization has been growing in visibility since last spring when the group hosted a concert to kick off the White House Correspondents’ Dinner weekend. Enlisting musicians has been a key strategy to help gain attention to the cause, and they have tapped the likes of Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes, French Montana, Rick Ross, and more recently Lainey Wilson and Valerie June.

During this year’s SuperBowl, Power to the Patients ran a splashy ad that helped to continue their mission to see prices in hospitals, so that patients won’t feel blindsided by the costs of medical procedures.
The addition of the Foo Fighters to the roster of advocates begins another era of visibility for the cause. The show, played at the Anthem along DC’s Wharf neighborhood included nearly 2500 attendees that included members of congress, lobbyists, media, advocates, and plenty of music fans.

Fat Joe, Valerie June, and Chuck D started out the evening with stories of why price transparency will help empower communities and overall build a better medical system, and then the Foo Fighters lit up the crowd with a broad performance of hits and new music.

The show also served as a bit of a homecoming for Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who counts DC as his hometown. Grohl and the Foo Fighters helped to launch the opening of the 9:30 when it was relaunched as well as the Atlantis, and of course, the Anthem.
