The Washington Kastles.

The Washington Kastles.

Has anyone considered that they are the first undefeated team since the Dolphins in 1972?  Seriously, HAVE YOU??  Not that we like to be gushy, but in the world of pro tennis there needs to be a significant pro sports reminder. Unheard of. OK..maybe a little gushy.

On Monday evening, The Washington Kastles kicked off their season with a stunning soiree at Poste Moderne Brasserie in Penn Quarter. Sure, we were enamored by the sliders. Of course, we loved the mascot—let’s face it, it’s cute. But here’s the important thing.  We have an undefeated pro team. We do. I give you Washington, DC, Ladies & Gentlemen, a district with an undefeated team.

The evening’s festivities were hosted by FRESH FM’s morning team of Tommy McFly & Kelly Collis, who presented team owner Mark Ein–who was thankful to his team’s fans and looked forward to a bright future. Come on people.  This is our hometown team. Ein also mentioned that on Tuesday July 17, there will be ‘the charity clash.’  Each team will have a mix of Republican and Democratic members of Congress, diplomats, members of the Obama administration, media personalities and Kastles players.  We think this is so much more amusing than the electoral college, and so much more productive….  Just sayin’.

The first home match will be Thursday, July 12, at 7:10 p.m. when the Kastles host the New York Sportimes at Kastles Stadium at the Wharf.  Kastles team member, 2012 Wimbledon singles champion and ladies’ doubles champion Serena Williams, will play a home match on July 22.  Kastles team member Venus Williams, who joined Serena as the 2012 ladies’ doubles victor, plays at home on July 24.  Seriously.  It’s the Williams’ sisters. Who doesn’t love that?

But wait, there’s more…. Treat Conrad Huey, who was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Alexandria, Va., and Edina Gallovits-Hall will augment the Kastles’ roster for the four matches from July 24 to 28, which includes the home match of July 24.  This will permit team members Leander Paes and Anastasia Rodionova to prepare for the 2012 Olympic Games.  So while we’re watching the Kastles play at home, we can also follow their team members live from London at some ungodly hour, and be happy about it.  Bonus!
