“Karin was my editor for about two years, I’d say, at Washington Life. I look forward to seeing all of my old friends. Karin is bringing everybody out of the woodwork and I’m sure it’s going to be a wonderful, wonderful night to help her celebrate her first debut novel, so I’m excited about that,” said photographer Tony Powell.

“I’m crazy excited,” said Tanabe. “I’ve covered and launched so many book parties in my career so it’s very cool to have it finally be mine. So I’m thrilled.”
We asked her if it was nice to be on the other side of the table. “It is. It is extra nice and I always said that if I got to be on the other side of the table, I would give any interview forever or for like twelve hundred years because I have been that person for like a decade.”

“I met Karin years ago when she was at Washington Life. We’ve done a couple of different fun events together and the best part about Karin and the most fun I’ve had with her was when we did The Most Stylish People or The Most Fashionable for the magazine,” said Pamela Sorensen of Pamela’s Punch. “And, we did a television show and so we got to talk about and make commentary about all the fashionable women – kind of like the Washington edition of the fashion police, but all good things.”

Overheard in the midst of Contemporaria on 14th Street where the book launch was held: “I started the first chapter and I’m already hooked, so I can’t wait to find out what happened.”
“I met her when she worked at Biz Now and she just sort of suddenly like appeared at a party I went to. There was this presence of this personality who was there and I automatically said, ‘Who the hell is that?’’ It started from there,” said Washington Life editor Kevin Chaffee. “Then she ended up coming to Washington Life who hired her, where she worked for a couple of years. I sat three feet away from her in a small office for a couple of years so we got to know each other pretty well.”

We’re guessing the main connecting guest factor was Washington Life. “I met Karin years ago when she was writing for Washington Life and she always had this pulse on what was happening. I was always finding myself connected with her fashion sense. She’s developed the qualities of a fashionista. She’s a true fashionista and she’s been to Dubai and come back and spent some time in the Middle East and I’m glad to welcome her back,” said Christopher Reiter – owner of Muleh and also known for his fashion sense.

“When Karin was here before she went to Dubai, she and I would see each other on red carpets or at events. We’d cover the same things: style, people, pop culture,” said Washingtonian fashion editor Kate Bennett.

“I read it and you know, it’s funny. I got an advance copy like four months ago before it came out and I think it’s great. Any writer is great who can actually go write a novel, because we all say, ‘Someday I’m going to write a novel’ so the ones of us who actually do it, I’m always impressed.”
