“Washington sucks at golf” joked Senator Lindsey Graham in the Senate Visitors Center at a gathering to kick off The NGS (No Greater Sacrifice) Golf Digest Congressional Shoot-Out which will take place June 23rd at Trump Natioinal Golf Club. When alerted that he was ranked number 88 on the last list of Washington’s best golfers, Senator Graham scoffed, “that’s bullshit.”
Senator Graham is one of a number of lawmakers who will participate in the tournament to raise money for causes including No Greater Sacrifice, a foundation that is dedicated to providing scholarships to the children of wounded or fallen soldiers. Also on hand was Senator Saxby Chambliss who mentioned, “I do want to see my handicap go down, that’s what I thought would happen when I went from the House to the Senate.”

“I’ve lost to Senator Graham before” said event chairman and FOX News anchor Brett Baier. Baier shared his excitement to support the tournament which also benefits Children’s National Health System, the hospital where his son had multiple cardiac surgeries. Brett shared that his son is doing well and “bouncing off the walls.”

Host committee member Kirk Rostron explained that the idea for the tournament arose after the June 2011 issue of Golf Digest published a list of Washington’s 150 Best Golfers, and that some regulars on the golf course didn’t think the rankings “matched up…so wouldn’t it be great if we had some competition.” And here we are.
