What would Ed Sullivan think?

On Sunday, Feb. 9, 1964, over 73 million Americans gathered around television sets to see what all the excitement was about.  The excitement began shortly after 8 p.m. EST when Sullivan gave his famous introduction: “Now yesterday and today our theater’s been jammed with newspapermen and hundreds of photographers from all over the nation, and these veterans agreed with me that the city never has the excitement stirred by these youngsters from Liverpool, who call themselves The Beatles.”  thebeatlesagain.com

50 years after The Beatles invasion of the US, our colleagues right here in DC have produced an hysterical video for the DC Preservation League which exemplfies very clearly that they never would have made The Ed Sullivan show.

The DCPL is Washington’s only citywide nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and protecting the historic resources of our nation’s capital. DCPL has helped preserve more than 175 individual landmarks and countless properties in historic districts across the city beginning with preventing the demolition of the Old Post Office Building on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW about to be turned into a glitzy luxury hotel by the Trump organization.

Kudos to Bob Schieffer, Chuck Todd, Suspicious Package and other Washingtonians for sharing their vocal talents with us!  Off key never sounded so good.
